Body Image

Just read the latest who magazine - never buy these but there was an article on positive body image and celebs that feel confident with their body.

Although their are so many unhealthy influences for young girls these days, it was so good to see something positive like this. It also mentioned just how unhappy we women are with our bodies. The worrying thing is, these issues start as young as 5 years old and some women live with it their whole lives!! Here's the article....

Long term success with weight loss and health is so much to do with how you think about yourself, your self talk and body confidence. When you love who you are, you want to nourish your body and take care of yourself.

If you are a mother, think about how your actions impact your children. If you are always bitching about your body, having fat days and doing crazy diets - what message is that sending to your children?

Try and find something positve about your body everyday, even something small such as having nice eyes or legs that help you to walk.

Just like houses are built brick by brick, start re-building your body image, by positive comments to yourself every day!

Including foods you love

If you are finding yourself trying to eliminate foods that you overeat, labelling them 'bad' in your head, you are always going to want more and more of that food. For example, if you love chocolate but eat too much of it you may be saying to yourself when you eat it "I'll just have this bit, or few rows, then tomorrow i'll eat perfectly". This is dieting midset. It is the last supper mentality. And for some of you, this process can happen everyday.

So how do you overcome it? Here's a few tips

* think about all the foods you would eat again if it was your last meal ever
* how many of those foods do you actually eat now?
* how many of those foods have you banned yourself from?
* how many of those foods do you overeat when you start eating them?
* take away the concept of any 'bad' foods
* one by one, start including the foods that you love, everyday.

for example - i really love peanut butter but in the past i would eat way too much of it. So i banned it from the house. I could not consume it in healthy quantitys so i chose to eliminate it totally. Then i decided, if i want it everyday, i can have it everyday. Now that permission is there, i dont want it as much as i thought i did. So now i eat it when i really really feel like it, then i really really enjoy it.

So try and work your favourite foods into your diet, trust yourself to eat them when you really really feel like them. Life is too short to miss out on the things we love!

Stop the madness!

Welcome to the first total body nourishment post! I hope to be updating this blog regulary with information regarding nutrition, fitness and reaching your health goals.

Just in the last few days i have come across a few people doing the shake diets. This makes me so sad and very mad at the same time. I realise when you sign up to these things you are in a state of desperation and just want the weight to come off fast.

This is torture for your body! It's madness that this is going on. It's no way to live life, even for a few weeks. Our bodies are designed to eat, not be deprived!

How about giving yourself permission to nourish your body with healthy, fresh, unprocessed foods and also including those foods that you love but have been told are 'bad' for you. The more you restrict your favourite foods, the more you will want them.

Learn to listen to what your body wants. Eat when you are hungry, stop when you are satisfied and eat what you will really enjoy. Your body is so smart, it'll tell you what you need, when you need to eat and how much.

Please, please, please - take a look at what you are doing to try and lose weight. Make sure it involves nourishing your body NOT depriving yourself and make sure you can do it longterm!
